World premiere recording of the Six Accompanied Keyboard Sonatas that were published by William Herschel in Bath in October 1769. The CD (total running time; 50.16 mins) also includes sleeve notes (16pp) that set these sonatas into their historical context. William Herschel (1738-1822) is regarded as the 'Father of Modern Astronomy' but spent the first part of his working life as a professional musician. Herschel was appointed to the post of organist at the Octagon Chapel in Bath in 1767 and quickly established himself as one of the key figures in Bath musical life. The Herschel Ensemble, led by Sophia Russell, harpsichord, was formed in 2008 at the Royal College of Music in London.
